Final WaLUE Workshop May 2017

Final WaLUE-Workshop from the 9th to the 12th of May, 2017 in Tiruvannamalai, India

During the on-site mission before this final workshop a visit of the municipal administration in Tiruvannamalai took place. The following topics were discussed with the city officials, the commissioner, the city manager and the technical director:

A preparatory meeting with Professor Vasudevan and other representatives of Anna University took place in Chennai.

The final workshop lasted three days - two days in Chennai (9-10 May) and the third day in Tiruvannamalai (11 May). On all days the event was extraordinarily well attended - by high-ranking representatives from science as well as decision-makers from politics and business. Thus the results of the WaLUE project could be successfully presented and discussed very competently both before, and with the present specialized public.

Particularly noteworthy technical results are the adaptation of the IWA water balance - originally developed for western industrialised countries - to the conditions in growing emerging countries (e.g. Addition of three scenarios with regard to invoiced and non-invoiced water quantities and the addition of a second meter at the roof tank outlet to document water loss/waste in the customer area); and from an economic point of view the financial model based on Excel, which shows the city and potential lenders the finances of the water supply in a previously non-existent transparency - and thus also implies numerous calculations to improve the financial situation (detailed instructions in English and Tamil, the national language, were compiled for the Indian side of the Excel tool and its functions).
